Jammin’

This year we got around 2 kilos of blackcurrants from the bushes in our little back garden.

We’ve turned the whole lot into delicious jam!!

    What are those little paper dealies under the lids?

      They are discs of greaseproof paper, just to make an extra seal in between the jam and the lid.

    I’m hoping for a bumper crop of damsons this year- my Dad rents some land where he keeps cattle and last year we picked about 20lbs from trees around the field. We made damson chutney in a slow cooker which was particularly good, but I fancy having a go at wine or gin this year.

      We made damson jam the year before last and it turned out really well! Of course they are great for booze too. I made some plum vodka recently which was deelish, it disappeared in no time actually!

      Good luck with the wine if that’s what you decide on!! I’ll swap you a bottle for a bottle of last year’s grape and blackcurrant πŸ˜‰

    There’s loads of fruit at the Hayes so feel free to pick a load when you come down for the Transition Festival- apples should be ready by then I reckon.
